The Schoolhouse Cèilidh returns to Peggy’s Cove for its second year

Peggy’s Cove Centre for Arts and Culture will present live fiddle music as part of The Schoolhouse Cèilidh at The Schoolhouse in Peggy’s Cove daily from June 26 to October 9, 2024.

Peggy’s Cove Centre for Arts and Culture has announced it will present live fiddle music as part of The Schoolhouse Cèilidh at The Schoolhouse in Peggy’s Cove.

Running daily from June 26 to October 9, 2024, the interactive and uniquely Nova Scotian cultural experience offers 30-minute performances three times a day at Noon, 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. Attendees can hear traditional Cape Breton fiddle music, pick up a few dance steps, and even learn some Gaelic words.

This year’s line-up of Nova Scotia-based performers includes Cassie & Maggie, Ella (Eilidh) Hanson, Kendra MacGillivray, Kimberley Holmes, Mairi Rankin, Skip Holmes, Troy MacGillivray, Vincent MacDonald and Wendy MacIsaac. Two fiddlers from the artist line up will perform at each Cèilidh.

“We are very excited to present The Schoolhouse Cèilidh in Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia for a second season this summer and expanding it to three shows a day, seven days a week,” says Eleanor McCain, founder and CEO of Six by the Sea and director of Peggy’s Cove Centre for Arts and Culture. “Experiencing authentic live fiddle music and Cape Breton culture by some of our most beloved Celtic artists is something we hope visitors and the local community alike will come to Peggy’s Cove to enjoy.”

The mission of the Peggy’s Cove Centre for Arts & Culture is to foster pride of place and preserve the unique character, heritage, authenticity, and values of Peggy’s Cove by sharing East Coast art and culture with Nova Scotians, Canadians, and visitors worldwide.

Built in 1839, The Schoolhouse in Peggy’s Cove has been a place of learning and worship, a community gathering space, and since 1958, when it ceased to be a school, the scene of artistic presentation. The Schoolhouse returns to its decades-old tradition of educating through entertainment. The Peggy’s Cove Centre for Arts & Culture operates The Schoolhouse as its main performance venue.

Peggy’s Cove Centre for Arts and Culture presents The Schoolhouse Cèilidh daily from June 26 to October 9, 2024, at The Schoolhouse (120 Peggys Point Rd, Peggys Cove). Visit theschoolhousens.ca for tickets and information.
