The Bus Stop makes its final push

Canadian Heritage funds now put The Bus Stop Theatre just $109,000 from its goal

Following a recent contribution of $355,000 from Canadian Heritage, The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op has launched a final push to purchase and renovate its theatre located on Gottingen Street.

Those dollars join the $355,000 from the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture & Heritage, $250,000 committed from the Halifax Regional Municipality and another $141,000 now raised from individual donations.

As Halifax Presents reported last November, The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op needed to raise a quarter-million dollars in non-government donations to fully fund the $1.2 million required to purchase and renovate the building.

“In order to minimize the amount of debt we’ll need to incur to make the purchase, we’re asking all our fans for one last show of support in helping us raise at least $25,000 before July 30,” says a media release.

Donations can be made online at thebusstoptheatre.org with tax receipts for donations over $20 issued through the Theatre Nova Scotia Partnership Program.

To celebrate, the theatre is planning a streamed concert on July 17 featuring supporters that include musicians Gabrielle Papillon, T. Thomason and Aquakultre.
